Self-portrait in Kramatorsk, Donetsk region, 25 Feb 2022.

JULIA KOCHETOVA, 30, photojournalist and documentary filmmaker.
Ukrainian, reporting from Ukraine now.
Game-changer, troubled daughter, and sometimes punk.

Studied journalism at Taras Shevchenko National University (UA) and Mohyla School of Journalism (UA), participated in IDFA academy (NL).

As a freelancer, I covered Maidan revolution (2013-2014), the annexation of Crimea (2014), and Russia-Ukraine war (2014-now).

It shapes all my professional path – I’m part of the generation of the revolution&war. My work from the conflict zone was presented at personal and group exhibitions in UK, USA, France, Netherlands, Italy, Germany, Serbia, Portugal and all over Ukraine.

In my documentaries, I research topics of home, post-trauma, and occupation. The main interest I have is to film the person in transition.

I started to work as a director with an autobiographical love story «See you later», which was presented and got special awards in different film festivals in Estonia, France, Brazil, Georgia, Ukraine, and Belarus.

Since 24 Feb 2022 I’m writing a visual diary via Instagram – @seameer, because I do really believe in firsthand storytelling. My recent war coverage was presented by Adobe Lightroom and Fotografiska gallery. Proud to share the story of my country via the best media outlets: Vice News, Der Spiegel, Zeit, Bloomberg, Vanity Fair, The Guardian, FP, Reuters, NBC.

Focused on the issues of the war generation, post-traumatic stress disorder and feminism. Based in Kyiv, open to collaborate.
